AYSO United Coach - Rick Harney



BACKGROUND

Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan – I have lived in the Grand Rapids area for over twenty-five years – and in Caledonia for thirteen. I started playing soccer when I was very young and have been playing ever since.

PHILOSOPHY

My coaching philosophy is pretty basic: create a positive environment that is designed to give athletes the opportunity to develop his/her skill level. Each athlete needs to develop their technical skills to form a solid base as they progress in their sport. As a coach, our job is to foster this growth, and support the players as become more confident and develop a sense of accomplishment.

I have been coaching soccer for 9 years, from the U5 age group all the way up to U12.

SOCCER HIGHLIGHT

During the fall 2019 season, my boys U12 soccer team struggled to score goals; we worked hard on improving this and by the winter 2020 indoor season the work paid off – we averaged almost 10 goals per game and finished in second place.
