AYSO United Coach - Eric Smithhart



BACKGROUND

I was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and moved to the area in 2010. Fell in love with the beautiful game while studying for my pharmacy degree. Married to Christy for 16 years and have 2 sons that are both United players.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in playing with purpose. Every action should have a reason behind it. Every decision should be made on the field by the players that have worked to perfect their game. I am simply a guide doing my all to get the best soccer from deep inside every player. We learn and grow together while remembering that no player is bigger than the team. We focus on development of soccer skills and life skills - results are a distant second.

I coached my first team in 2013 and have learned so much in my 7 years of professional development.

My team supports one another in good times and bad. There have been so many occasions where I see them encouraging each other. I am proud of their conduct on and off the field - there are so many leaders in this group.

BEST COACHING MEMORY

My best coaching memory to date has to do with my U10 team in the fall of 2019. Club soccer is an ultra-competitive environment. Despite the inevitable push to specialize positions, we had every child play at least 3 positions and every child scored at least 1 goal. They celebrated with each other and formed strong bonds that will last for years.
